GROUND TRANSPORTATION

Due to the substantial amounts of time and distance involved, and the threat of major holiday traffic jams, we will be unable to make airport pick ups for our guests. Therefore, we are presenting this directory of ground transportation (public transportation and cabs) to guide you to the Shabbaton location.

Public Transportation from Midway

First of all, have $1.50 in change with you. Follow the signs to the train, which will lead you past the Southwest baggage claim. Walk over the bridge to the station and pay the fare. You will be boarding an ORANGE line train.

If your flight arrives:

a) Before 2:30, you will ride the train to a stop called CLARK AND LAKE. There you will get off, walk over the bridge and take a BROWN line train (do not take a GREEN train). You will get off this train at a stop called FULLERTON. There you will walk about 12 feet to the other side of the platform where you will catch a RED line train and continue North. When you reach the end of the line at HOWARD, you will stay on the same platform, then take a YELLOW line train to Skokie (it is the only stop). We will have pick ups from there.
b) After 2:30, you will get off at a stop called WASHINGTON AND WELLS. There you will wait for a PURPLE line train. Stay on this train all the way to HOWARD where you will take the YELLOW train to Skokie where we will have pick ups.

By the way, this looks much more complicated than it really is.

Public transportation from O'Hare

Bring $1.80 with you.

If after 1:30 p.m., follow the signs for Trains to City to find the Blue Line O'Hare CTA station. Take the Blue line to the Irving Park station. Take the 54A bus northbound and get off at the Skokie Swift station. The 54A bus runs starting at 2 p.m. We plan to provide rides from the Skokie Swift station. You can also take the 250 bus eastbound and get off at East Prairie.

If before 1:30 p.m., look for the O'Hare Bus Center. Take the 220 bus North to the Des Plaines Metra station. Then take the 250 bus eastbound and get off at East Prairie.

Cabs

If you want to take a cab from the airport to Or Torah, 3800 Dempster in Skokie, Illinois, where registration will take place, your two best bets are:

American Taxi, which charges $20.50 to Skokie from O'Hare and $38.00 from Midway. There is a $2 charge for each additional passenger. American has free courtesy phones in the baggage claim areas at both airports, or you can call 847/673-1000.
303 Taxi which charges $22 from O'Hare and $42 from Midway. There is also the $2 for each additional passenger. 303's phone number is 800/225-5303.

Finally, from O'Hare there is:

Continental Air Transport 800-654-7871
Go to the Continental Air Transport Airport Express counter located on the lower level of terminals 1, 2, and 3 of O'Hare. The cost is $21 ($18 for hotel dropoff) for one passenger, and $6.00 each for each of the next six additional passengers. The van will leave within 20-30 minutes, and may make stops to drop off other passengers.
